Stylin' Stampin INKspiration ~ Technique Tuesday {Shaker Frames}

This stamp {World Map} has totally changed my world. I've always loved the more masculine stamps and this one definitely floats my boat! One of the things that I really like about it is that you can color it. That leaves it WIDE open for creativity! So, I set to work with my blender pen and ink. 

Since we're playing around with Shaker Frames at Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration, I thought this stamp would work perfectly for my vision. I wanted the shaker frame to resemble water. Since it's not like the treat cup and you can't put liquids in it, I chose to use beads instead. This was perfect!

Have I mentioned that I'm totally in love with this new cross grain ribbon? Well... I am! I like it so much that I ordered it in every color and this is the first time I've actually gotten to use it. I'm so glad that I have a whole rainbow of it!

I have to admit, I'm very upset that Stampin' Up! discontinued this stamp set. I really really love it and didn't get enough time to play with it. Yes, I could keep it... But I'm a current, in-the-now kinda girl.

This card was a blast to create. I know I've just about worn out the whole ship/nautical theme thing, but I just HAD to do it again. I love love love making these port holes. Especially the verdigris ones. 

I filled the shaker with blue beads that I picked up at the local craft store. I think it makes it look like water, which is perfect for this theme!

I built this port hole in 3 layers using the Circle Framelits Collection. I colored them with sponges and {Gorgeous Grunge}. SO EASY!

Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration ~ Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! Today at Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration we're sharing a few of our favorite Stampin' Up! products.

I am a hardcore fan of {Hardwood}. I use it on so many cards. It is so versatile, the possibilities are endless. I also am in love with {The Open Sea} and the new {Hello Sailor} stamp sets. I really really enjoy making nautical cards and these sets are just SO much fun to play around with. Another couple favorites are Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay... oh I better add Baked Brown Sugar to that too. 

I decided to incorporate ALL of these into one card. I am a HUGE fan of metal work and the Verdigris patina that sometimes goes along with it. My husband and I visited St. Augustine, Florida a few years ago and went to the Old City. Talk about AMAZING pieces of history! One of the things that really struck me was the patina on the old canons at Castillo de San Marcos. That is what sparked the idea for this card. 

I wanted to create a "rust" effect on the port hole. I started with Whisper White cardstock and sponged on Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay. I then used the Gorgeous Grunge stamps and added Baked Brown Sugar and Cajun Craze. I think it really worked out well!

Retro Sketch Sunday #103

There is a new sketch challenge at Retro Sketches today. It is a fun little sketch. A tag! I love tags, they're something that you can use anytime. They are so much fun to make. This sketch was fun because it had a lot of room for creativity. I'm in love with Nautical themes, I needed a masculine tag, and I needed something for Father's Day (yes, I know it's early). This was the perfect project to fill those requirements!

Ahoy! #148: A Nautical Birthday Wish

I have been obsessed with nautical themes lately. I don't know where it's coming from. I am always short on masculine cards so maybe that's the reason? One look at the new Fresh Prints Designer Paper Series and I KNEW this card had to be nautical. How does one NOT love this stuff? I really like the size of the new pack. It's perfect for cards. So I set to work. What do you think about when you think "nautical"? I think ocean, ships, lots of studs and metal rigging. Here is what I came up with. I hope you like it! I've used the sketch from Mojo Monday's challenge #327.

Ink ~ Early Espresso, Soft Suede, Baked Brown Sugar, Real Red, Craft White

*clear embossing powder over the "Make a Wish" stamp

Stamp Sets ~ Woodgrain, Perfect Pennants, The Open Sea, Perfectly Penned (inside), Geometrical (inside), Gorgeous Grunge (inside)

Embellishments ~ 1/8" mini brads

Other supples ~ Shaker Frames, Window Sheet, Dimensionals

How to:

Stamp "Woodgrain" onto Crumb Cake cardstock using Early Espresso ink.

Cut into strips measuring 3/4" x 3 3/4" and round the corners.

Distress, crumple, mash, and sponge with Baked Brown Sugar ink.

Cut Fresh Prints DSP to a 1 3/4 strip. You'll have to double the length as it wasn't quite wide enough to cover. Distress, crumple, and sponge with Early Espresso, and Baked Brown Sugar ink.

Time to make the compass! I used the compass stamp from The Open Sea, the 1" circle punch and the 1 3/8" circle punch, Shaker Frame, and Window sheet. Assemble the compass with a small piece of Dimensional. There you go!

I hope you've found this helpful. I'm sure I missed a step or two. I constantly become so engrossed in the project that I forget to take pictures as I go. I'll have to work on that!

The Open Sea #141: A Ship in the Night

I've recently fallen {back} in love with this stamp set. I've only used it a couple of times so it feels new and exciting again. I created this card for my addition to Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration's Framelits Friday post. I couldn't be more pleased with how this turned out. Since it was a Framelits theme, I wanted LOTS of layers. I think I accomplished that. It's a fatty! Double postage for sure. I love how much depth this card has. Perfect for a nautical theme, right?

*The background for the card was created using sponges and markers.

*I stamped and colored a second ship and cut the sails out and added it to the original stamp. Popping one side of the sail out with dimensionals. It gave it an amazing 3-D look.
